our first gig

We played at my sisters 18th, it was a lot of fun, the band came over at around two thirty and we practised for about two or three hours. Then we had a brake and sat down for a fair while. The party was going good, about forty or fifty people showed up. We started playing with the song Seven Nation Army, it was great, lots of people were up and dancing. We then played black night and that went great. Then we played A Long Way To The Top, people absolutely loved that one, lots of people were singing along. For our final song we played our best one, Hysteria by a band called muse. People were  getting excited as soon as they heard the starting bass-line, it was so much fun, everyone enjoyed it, we got it all right. We finished that and the crowd started saying to us, "play the first one again", so we had to, it was great. It was a fantastic night.

Rage against the machine

The other day i found the band Rage against the machine, they have been around for a while and lots of people know them already but i know about them as well now. I was lucky that a friend of mine had just about every song of theirs and gave them all to me. They have really good songs like "killing in the name of" and "take the power back". They are really good and their bass lines are the best, challenging and fun. I can play about four of their songs so far, learning more though. They are only young and have plenty of more songs to come.
The other day in the music room at school i started playing one of their songs and it just so happened the guitarist and drummer both knew how to play the song, so we did'nt say we were going to play the song, i just started to platy it and they both joined in, it was a lot of fun.

Sisters 18th birthday party

My sisters 18th is coming up and shes going to have a party and i get to play music there. I'll be playing bass, hayden will play guitar tom on drums and a couple of singers. I think its going to be in a hall somewhere so we have lots of room to set up. We can play as many songs as we want so i think we decided we would play six or seven songs. We get to play the songs; seven nation army, hysteria, re-education through labour, feeling good, be okay, need somebody. We might do a few more then that but thats the songlist for now.
We are going to have practises every saturday and at school. Tom wasnt too fond of the idea of playing on saturdays at my place because he has to pack his drums up then set them and then do it all again. So hopefully it goes well and people like our music.

Multicultural festival

On Friday the 11^th I got to go to the multicultural festival at Kernot Hall in Morwell, we got to play the song absolutely everybody, it was much better than practise because we got the massive drum solo thing shortened now it sounds good. I thought we were going to be the last act but we ended up being 3^rd. Before us there was a group of little that looked like they were in about grade 3, they sang the national anthem; they were so small and cute. Before the festival started we had to tune all our instruments, but we found that none of us remembered to bring a guitar tuner, but luckily the guitarist from Morwell had an application on his iPod touch that tuners guitars and basses. After tuning the rhythm section had to do a sound check (drums, guitars and bass guitars) and that all went well. When we got to the time of playing it was fun, the audience looked like they enjoyed the performance. The song seemed like it went fast. When we finished we were quick to pack up and get our stuff back into the music trailer. Once we packed up we got our free lunch (a hamburger and a can of coke). Then we packed up and went back to school.

Deep Purple - Black Knight

I've been playing a song called Black Knight by the band Deep Purple. It's funny, I've been playing this song a lot but i have never heard it, probably should listen to it though. Its super fun to play on bass. Today in the music room i got to play the song with Hopo, the guitar teacher, it was awesome.
On wednesday i had a big band practise, it was just about all the singer, drum players, lots of brass, woodwind, two guitars and me on bass. It was sort of fun, it was fun to play bass all day, but we had to play the song absolutley everybody, it such a boring and annoying song and with the nex extension that has a massive drum part in it, it makes the song so for about TEN MINUTES! Its sooo boring! Next week on Friday, we have to play that song again at a cultral festival, dont know how thats gonna be, hopefully good and fun.

After school Band

This week i have been excited to find out about going to Mount Gambia with the after school band. The only problem is it costs alot to go, so we are going to do some fundraising. I'm not sure what we are going to do for raising money, we might raise the money by selling chocolates or busking but that might take a while. If we do raise enough money and go there, we will be playing at a jazz competition, where we will be playing a song called "that funky thing" (its really, really hard).
Being in the afterschool band it so fun, we practise every Thursday after school. It's a challenge because we have to read music quite fast, but it's still fun.
We have been playing the song "peter gun theme song", when playing bass, after playing that song right through it make my hand feel like its falling apart wecause i have to sretch so much.

Hysteria

I've been playing this song on bass, it is Hysteria by Muse (one of the best bands in the world)! When you start to play this song for the first time it is quite difficult, but as you start playing it alot, it turns out to be very easy. When playing in a band, this can be one of the most fun songs to play (when on bass), you are continuingly playing along, right through the whole song (including verses, chorus and bridge). I've been trying to see how fast i can play the whole song just for fun. The whole song goes for three minutes and 40 seconds, but i can play it in one minute and 39 seconds, thats about TWO MINUTES OFF! The only problem with playing it this fast is my wrist burns after playing hysteria that fast. After playing this for a while last night i decided to show other how to play it, so i record me playing it (at normal speed, then slowly so people can see how to play it) then i uploaded it onto youtube, then within an hour ten people had watched it, i was very happy! I've also been putting other songs onto youtube like seven nation army. Its so much fun to put things like that on youtube. I love playing bass!
